The popularity of Korean barbecue has been ingrained into Korean culture from the love of pre-seasoned meats. Thought to have originated by a nomadic group called Maek in central Asia, Korean BBQ soon emerged, enhancing the BBQ culture with sweeter, spicer flavours.

 

 

Made fresh in our Takanini plant, our New Zealand made Ottogi Beef BBQ sauce couples authentic, traditional Korean flavours with the savoury, sweet and tangy taste of BBQ for a versatile taste & texture that is ideal for marinades & cooking. Well seasoned, the sauce is well-balanced, rich textured and adds a deep scent that compliments a variety of dishes such as steaks, hamburgers, bulgogi, fish and chicken.

Skirt Steak with Beef BBQ Marinade

  • ½ cup Ottogi Beef BBQ Sauce
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or grate
  • ½ in ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ teaspoon Ottogi Sesame oil
  • Savory Seasoned Salt
  • 1 pound skirt steak

1. Mix together marinade ingredients and add steak. Marinate for 1 hour or up to overnight in the refrigerator. If marinating overnight, remove and bring to room temperature for about an hour before cooking.

2. When you are ready to cook, heat a cast iron skillet or grill pan over high heat until hot. Sear steak for a few minutes on each side until the internal temperature reads about 120°F.

3. Remove and let the steak rest for 10 minutes before slicing against the grain into long, thin strips.

4. Coat with extra Beef BBQ Sauce or use as a dipping sauce in a separate dish & enjoy!

Directions:

  1. Slice Fresh Beef into small thin pieces.
  2. Mix with marinade and leave for 30minutes. Use a 5:1 ratio between the meat and marinade)
  3. Add a variety of vegetables of your choice, such as onions, spring onions and mushrooms.
  4. Grill or broil for about 4-8 minutes or stir-fry in an ungreased pan for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Serve
