The popularity of Korean barbecue has been ingrained into Korean culture from the love of pre-seasoned meats. Thought to have originated by a nomadic group called Maek in central Asia, Korean BBQ soon emerged, enhancing the BBQ culture with sweeter, spicer flavours.

 

 

Used for thousands of years, pork has become the staple ingredient of many Korean dishes for its nutrition and versatility. Coupled with authentic, traditional Korean flavours, Ottogi’s Pork BBQ sauce features a rich, savoury, sweet and tangy BBQ taste. Well-textured and ideal for marinades & cooking, the sauce is perfectly seasoned, the sauce is well-balanced and adds a deep scent that compliments a variety of pork dishes.

Spicy Korean BBQ Pork

  • 1 ½ lb boneless pork shoulder (680 g), or pork belly
  • ½ onion, sliced into thin strips
  • 3 stalks green onion, sliced into 2-inch (5 cm) pieces
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • ¼ cup Maeil Gochujang Red Pepper Paste
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup Ottogi maeil soy sauce (60 mL)
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon Ottogi sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ottogi black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Ottogi Presco Canola Oil
  • sesame seed, to garnish
  • Ottogi Pork BBQ Sauce
  • rice, to serve

1. Slice the pork into extremely thin slices, then transfer to a large bowl. This works best when the pork is super cold or partially frozen.

2. Add in all of the ingredients besides the Ottogi Presco Canola Oil, then mix until the pork and the vegetables are evenly coated with the marinade.

3. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

4. Heat the oil in a pan over high heat, add pork, being sure not to crowd the pan, stir-fry the pork in batches until slightly crispy on the edges, about 3-4 minutes. If you’re using pork belly, cook for a bit longer, around 6-7 minutes.

5. Sprinkle a bit of Ottogi Sesame Seeds on top, then serve with rice!

Directions:

  1. Slice Fresh Pork meat into small thin pieces.
  1. Mix with marinade and leave for 30minutes. Use a 5:1 ratio between the meat and marinade)
  1. Add a variety of vegetables of your choice, such as onions, spring onions and mushrooms.
  1. Grill or broil for about 4-8 minutes or stir-fry in an ungreased pan for 5-10 minutes.
  1. Serve
