Scorched rice, known as “Nurungji” in Korean is made from the thin crust of slightly browned rice. Popularly eaten as a snack or infused in hot water to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea), Nurungji can also be reboiled to make Nureun bap and is traditionally known for its medicinal attributes to aid digestion.

Sungyung Tea

  • 250ml Boiling Water
  • 2-3 Teaspoons of Ottogi Nurungji (Scorched Rice)

  1. Take about 2-3 teaspoons of the Ottogi Nurungji Rice and steep for a few minutes in a cup of boiling hot water.
  2. Set aside to cool down and either remove the rice or keep in for a deeper flavour.

  2. Put 1 pouch of Ottogi Nurungji and pour 400ml of hot water. Stir well and leave it for 3~4mint.
